Robert, founder of StoryOlive

At the end of 2025, I was looking for a site to learn Hebrew by reading stories.

Reading websites exist for other languages, so I was surprised that there wasn't a good one specifically for Hebrew.

As a software developer, I decided to build this myself.

I launched it in January 2026, and have since received many kind messages and bits of feedback from learners.

It's now a full time endeavor for me, where I am constantly adding new stories, as well as features which people have requested.

If you discover a bug or want to request a feature, I would love to hear from you! (hello@storyhebrew.com) I'm a one-person team and I read everything myself.

Frequently asked questions

FAQs about how it works

Does StoryOlive work for complete beginners?

Yes, if you start at A1. You do not need to know the alphabet first: every word has transliteration and translation. Expect to tap words often at first. That is normal. Your job in the first few stories is to follow the meaning, not memorize everything.

How is StoryOlive different from Duolingo?

Duolingo is strong for quick drills and basic vocabulary. StoryOlive is built for reading full sentences and stories in context. Most learners hit a wall when apps never give them connected text. StoryOlive is meant to fill that gap.

What level should I start at?

Take the free level test if you are unsure. Otherwise start at A1 and move up only when you can read most of a story without tapping every word. Rushing to a harder level is the most common reason people stall.

Do the stories get harder as I improve?

Yes. Stories run from A1 to C2, with longer sentences, less common vocabulary and fewer vowel marks at higher levels. Stay at a level until it feels manageable, then step up one level at a time.

FAQs about what you get

What do I get with Premium?

How often is new content added?

New stories are added all the time, so there is always fresh reading material as you progress.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The full reader works in mobile browsers, and you can add StoryOlive to your home screen.

FAQs about payments

How much does it cost?

Premium is $12/month when billed annually or $19/month when billed monthly. It is a subscription. Cancel anytime from your account page.

What happens to my vocabulary if I cancel?

Your saved words and reading progress stay on your account. You can still use free stories and your vocab list.
